Assessment is a key phase of the teaching and learning cycle, as an important ongoing process of gathering, analysing and interpreting evidence. Reflection on findings can help inform and improve future student learning. Assessment for improved student learning requires a range of assessment practices to be used with three overarching purposes: assessment for learning (diagnostic), assessment as learning (formative) and assessment of learning (summative).
