National organisations and Professional associations​

These organisations provide professional learning and resources for teachers. The support may include:

  • professional learning opportunities for mathematics teachers in new areas of the curriculum and emerging priorities
  • school leadership support
  • support for training and resourcing, in particular for out of field teachers
  • access to a mathematics-focused community of learners
  • teaching and assessment resources.

National organisations


ATSIMA is an Indigenous led, non-profit, member-based group representing organisations, communities, institutes and individuals around Australia. It aims to inspire, promote and support improved mathematics outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

The Australian Academy of Science provides independent, authoritative and influential scientific advice, promotes scientific engagement, builds public awareness and understanding of science, and champions, celebrates and supports excellence in Australian science.

AAMT is the national association of mathematics educators that aims to support and enhance the work of teachers, promote the learning of mathematics and represent and promote interests in mathematics education.

AMSI is national voice and champion for mathematics and statistics. AMSI works with schools, universities, industry, philanthropic organisations and government.

The Australian Mathematical Society is the national society of the mathematics profession in Australia.

AMT creates a range of mathematical competitions and programs for students with the vision of developing a nation of creative problem-solvers. They believe maths is the most effective way to get students there.

The Society is a national 'umbrella' organisation to support and further the work of state statistical societies already in existence, to establish a national journal and newsletter and to host national conferences. The national Society represents Australian and overseas statisticians with state branches in six states and territories providing the focus and organisation of local activities.

MERGA provides a range of forums for raising important issues in mathematics education and sharing research findings that address how these issues might be effectively addressed.

SSI works with educators to improve the educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and beyond them, all Australian school children. SSI aims to create transformative change in Indigenous educational outcomes.

State and territory organisations


CMA is the representative body of professional educators of mathematics in Canberra.

MANSW provides support for mathematics teachers K–12 and encourages participation by tertiary educators to share their skills and expertise.

MASA supports the mathematics teachers of South Australia from reception to tertiary institutions.

MAT aims to link mathematics teachers through association activities, an annual conference and regular communication.

MAV represents Victorian mathematics teachers and educators in primary schools, secondary schools, early learning and at home.

MAWA provides support for anyone with an interest in mathematics including teachers, parents and students.

MTANT supports and promotes the work of maths teachers throughout the Territory and is a voice on local and national mathematical issues.

The Primary Mathematics Association of SA promotes and develops primary mathematics and numeracy education resources (early years to middle years) in South Australia.

QAMT members from preschool to tertiary support each other to enhance the quality of mathematics.
