First Nations Australian counting systems in the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics for F-6 educators

Recorded on 3rd December 2024

Presenter: Dr Caty Morris, ATSIMA, Project Manager.

In collaboration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance  (ATSIMA), we invite you to a new webinar showcasing maths situations in First Nations Australian counting systems, and related content in the maths curriculum and the Maths in Schools online courses.

A rich variety of counting systems will be considered plus different number-words and the use of body-tallying. Learning about First Nations Peoples’ counting systems enables students to investigate and develop number sense by connecting culture with mathematics in relevant ways. Participants will be able to access supporting materials such as Teacher Background Information that provides detailed information covered in the webinar.
